" WALK INTO THE VERANDA
AND COME HOME "
Having lots of limitations in the current state such as lack of garden, covered front porch, lots of columns in the middle of the house because of the combination of two townhouses, both the client and the design team have a common goal – converting an existing 80m2 space into a bakery with a "rustic but full" space where you can forget about frivolous things and make your life easier.
Client’s requirement for the design team is to create a small space with smart and cost-effectiveness design.
In terms of emotion, it is important to make a warm and cozy atmosphere so that every guest feels at home rather than a "come and go" shop. In terms of style, the design needs to be clear and simple, but not boring and cold like many minimalist design styles which only have white, black, and "nothing

The most important thing is to create a well-ventilated space flooded with natural lighting where customers can separate themselves from the world outside, forget all the worries, and find their inner peace.
That could be solved by many solutions such as extending the facade by using timber frame, planting trees to make the shop fresher and greener.A Japanese Noren doorway curtain is hung in front of the shop, which is used to separate the inside from the outside of the shop, elegantly cover the door, make the interior space more attractive, and enhance curiosity and expectation of customers.
The existing window system is lowered and becomes the front porch seating, expanding the door system and pushing to one side.
By using a 3 meters curtain that can move inside the shop, the interior space can be changed every day. It also helps to create different angles that make guests have more emotions and experiences as well as divide the shop into separate spaces when privacy is needed.
The chef is the "soul" of this bakery so choosing a counter seating and seeing the chefs making cakes will be an unforgettable memory. However, the number of these seating is limited in order to keep quiet for the chefs.
All efforts of the design team, from organizing space, designing the interior to choosing colors, are aimed at creating a friendly and cozy atmosphere so that customers can feel like they have just returned home.
